The tradition of women weavers spread throughout Colombia, artisans have learned different techniques and now use their knowledge to shape the ideas of Juliana Rojas, Gabbita’s designer, who from this knowledge explores the various styling opportunities crochet has to offer, resulting in a mixed collection of wisdom and tradition.

International Women´s Day

Women’s Day is one of the many results from the Industrial Revolution first riots which occurred on March 8, 1908, the workers of the textile company New York Cotton when mostly migrants gathered at the company premises to protest poor working conditions, 146 women were killed by bombs. Two years after a group of women protesting the same causes in Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York on March 25 died in similar conditions, after this date different manifestations of women took place in Denmark, Germany, Austria and Switzerland forming groups for women who demanded the right to vote, hold public office, the right to employment, vocational training and job discrimination. This day has acquired a global dimension, supported by United Nations; it’s a day of celebration, honoring the effort, dedication, values and intelligence in each of the different work fields.

GABBITA joins this celebration with the same passion and dedication. Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide and connects women to honor their achievements in many exciting ways. Amazing women celebrities, athletes, political leaders, and experts speak about women’s issues today and how women enlighten hearts and empower minds for a better world.

On October 18, 2010 fashion insiders gathered at the Figueroa Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the launch of Gabbita.

Those who were able to attend were treated to an exclusive presentation of Gabbita's Spring 2011 Collection while enjoying cocktails, hors d'eouvers, and beats by DJ THE Electra.

The response was amazing, as one guest put it, "For those who weren't there and often get frustrated by many of L.A.'s mediocre fashion events-you really missed out on this one. Fashion Show Benefitting the Michael Bolton Charities INC

GABBITA was honored to take part in the Michael Bolton Charity event hosted at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa in Ojai, California.

Founded in 1993, the Mission of The Michael Bolton Charities, Inc. is dedicated to two critical areas: (1) The assistance of children and women at risk and, (2) Through education and effective programs, create social awareness to broaden horizons and expand opportunities for youth across socioeconomic and multicultural lines.

Gabbita showcased their Spring line of both Noche and Swim. Swim was featured poolside with chill house music playing in the background, while ladies enjoyed their after yoga brunch! Noche was featured at the cocktail reception while guest were mingling and bidding on auction items. Both events were a hit and special orders were placed for new Gabbita clients! Gabbita donated a portion of sales that evening to the charity, in addition to gifting VIP guest with a Gabbita handbag, and the donation of a auction item. Gabbita is extremely committed to giving back to our community and honored we could be apart of the Michael Bolton Charities!

JULIANA ROJAS -Creator & Designer-

Juliana Rojas, designer and founder of Gabbita, was born in Bogotá, Colombia and is the eldest of four children. Her earliest dreams were fairytalesque fantasies of fashion and beauty. While growing up in Colombia, she challenged herself as a hobby to create a different style daily with a central theme of sophistication, femininity and sensuality.

Juliana grew up observing her two grandmothers use their artistic talent to create beautiful garments made of the finest materials Colombia has to offer. This amazed Juliana in later years because neither she nor her grandmothers considered what they were doing to be the work of luxury fashion designers - it was simply a utilitarian task. 
However, fashion would remain simply a hobby and a dream for Juliana instead pursuing a more practical path earning a Legal degree, practicing family law. Her desire for a new adventure led her relocating to the United States where she became surrounded by many cultures and endless styles from around the world. It would not be long before she would fall in love, marry and embark upon her greatest creation- her daughter Gabriella. Motherhood filled her heart with love and soon thereafter it was revealed; her childhood dream was still there demanding to be recognized- Gabbita.

Gabbita is now a label, the living dream of Juliana Rojas. She is able to share her creativity as a designer turning her artistic thoughts into wearable art. Juliana’s designs are produced by women from her native Colombia, whose skills similar to her Grandmothers have been passed down from generation to generation. What has been a tradition in many lives of Colombian women has become an art form that allows these women to support their families while sharing a beautiful piece of Colombia.

Gabbita is authentic, luxurious, and showcases the sophistication and unrivaled elegance of any woman who wears it. It is Juliana’s belief that being unique is not an excuse to loose touch with the original form designers are blessed with, the body. Her passion is to design for those wishing to illuminate their beauty in her creations.
